New in May
Hacks Season 3 (May 2)
What is it about? Season 3 of this popular enemies-to-buddies comedy finds Deborah Vance in the middle of one of the most monumental and successful periods in her career. While this is bringing more opportunities for her, it is also complicating her relationship with Ava. No longer boss and employee, the two will have to navigate their new dynamic and see if there is a way to be friends. Never seen Hacks? Read about the premise of the show here.
Gay, in what way? Hannah Einbeinder (gay) plays the main character, a comedy writer Ava (bisexual) who, among other things, gets to make out with Christina Hendricks this season (gay).
Where to watch? Stream on Max.
Wildcat (May 3)
What is it about? Wildcat is an American biographical drama about American novelist Flannery O’Connor struggling to publish her first novel. This Southern Gothic asks, among other things: can scandalous art still serve God? Does suffering precede all greatness? Can illness be a blessing?
Gay, in what way? There has been speculation over the years as to whether or not Flannery O’Connor was queer. Also, she is played by Maya Hawke, who came out within the past year! Queer icon Laura Linney also stars.
Where to watch? In theaters.
Prom Dates (May 3)
What is it about? Best friends Hannah and Jess make a promise to each other to have the best senior prom ever – a few years later, and things are sort of on track. Jess is dating Luca, a vain but popular bully who is a shoe-in for prom king, and Hannah gets an overblown musical-theater promposal in front of the whole school from her boyfriend Greg. The problem is, she’s secretly gay, and hasn’t come out to anyone - not even her BFF.
Gay, in what way? See above <3
Where to watch? Stream on Hulu.
