New in March
Problemista (March 1)
What is it about? This surrealist comedy film is about Alejandro, an aspiring toy designer who’s struggling to bring his unique and unusual ideas to life in New York City. Time is running out on his work visa and so he takes a job assisting an art world outcast in hopes that she will sponsor him and allow him to stay in the country and realize his dream.
Gay, in what way? Problemista is Julio Torres’ directorial debut. Torres is a queer, Salvadorian writer and comedian. If you haven’t already, we highly recommend his comedy special on Max, My Favorite Shapes. Also beloved-by-the-gays Tilda Swinton plays Alejandro’s irate and out of pocket boss.
Where to watch? In theaters March 1st (today!)
T Blockers (March 5th)
What is it about? This campy, queer horror film centers on an aspiring trans director named Sophie and her nonbinary best friend Spencer as they navigate a small town being overrun by brain parasites that prey on the aggrieved.
Gay, in what way? This is the latest offering from Alice Maio Mackey, an 18-year-old (!) transgender director and filmmaker from South Australia. T Blockers features a whole host of queer and trans characters as well as a Buffyian sensibility around campy, stylish horror.
Where to watch? In select theaters and VOD on March 5th.
Love Lies Bleeding (March 8)
What is it about? Lou is a reclusive gym manager who falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder who's heading to Las Vegas to pursue her dream. Their love soon leads to violence, as they get pulled deep into the web of Lou's crime family.
Gay, in what way? Kristen Stewart with a mullet. Need I say more? The press for Love Lies Bleeding promises reckless lawlessness sprinkled with hot-and-heavy, campy sapphic razzle dazzle.
Where to watch? In theaters March 8th.
